Idaho is an outdoor recreation destination and a geologic wonderland. The northern region's lakes offer trophy fishing, boating, sailing, waterskiing, and winter sports. Moving south, the Snake River Gorge dominates the western border and ambles southeast, creating a major recreation path.

Hell's Canyon National Recreation Area on the western border is a geologic wonder, parts of which are accessible by not-to-be-missed guided excursions on jet boats or rafts. Wilderness areas provide hiking and backpacking for nature lovers and adventure seekers.

Major sand dunes, ancient fossil beds, and waterfalls which rival Niagara Falls are part of the geologic and natural wonders of the southern areas. Scenic drives are found in every region. Winter sports include alpine and nordic skiing. Snowmobiling is a popular pasttime.

In addition to the many attractions in the southeast, the area has roadways leading to Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks in neighboring states. Fishing, hunting, and R&R are accessible from small towns with friendly people throughout the state.
